Magnesium supplements is a different story. The world supply of magnesium citrate is coming from China. The market of Magnesium Citrate is very large and different qualities are being supplied. The quality of Magnesium Citrate is based on the elementary magnesium ratio within the citrate. For our products we supply the highest ratio  possible, which is 16%. Our Citrate products are selected and fabricated in The Netherlands.

The ancient Zechstein Sea, located beneath parts of Europe including the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Poland is an ancient underground magnesium-rich deposit. MontenSal sources its magnesium from this pristine and natural source for magnesium flakes, oil and gel.

More information can be found on the Wikipedia of Zechstein.

The quality of Magnesium Citrate is based on the elementary magnesium ratio within the citrate. The amount of Magnesium Chloride is as follow: Magnesium Flakes: 41% | Magnesium Oil: 31% | Magnesium Gel: 30%.

With Magnesium Supplements, magnesium is generally well-tolerated. However, excessive intake can lead to diarrhea and stomach upset. To avoid this, it’s advisable to follow recommended dosage guidelines and gradually increase your intake if needed.

For Topical intake or transdermal intake (via the skin) using Magnesium Oil, there are known side effects. Magnesium Oil has a concentrated Magnesium Chloride content of 31%. This can sometimes cause skin irritation, which is often a detoxification phenomenon. Your body needs time to adjust, eliminating toxins and replacing them with essential minerals. If you experience skin irritation, take a break from the application and then resume. Alternatively, you can try these measures:

  • Remove excessive oil after 20 minutes
  • Dampen your skin before applying.
  • Take a shower after 20 minutes of application

Consider using Magnesium Gel instead, which has a lower magnesium chloride concentration and may be gentler on the skin.

Individuals with kidney problems, certain heart conditions, allergies to magnesium, and those with osteoporosis should consult a healthcare professional before use.

The appropriate dosage varies based on factors such as age, health status, gender, and more. As a general guideline for adults, a daily intake of 300 – 350 mg is common. For individuals who are overweight, it’s recommended to take around 6 mg per kilogram of body weight per day. Adult men may consider a range of 350 – 400 mg daily, while athletes might require higher amounts than these averages. It’s always advisable to seek guidance from a healthcare professional if you have any uncertainties.

Pregnant women typically need around 350-400 mg/day of magnesium. However, it’s essential to consult a healthcare provider before making any changes during pregnancy.

Various sources provide different guidelines for magnesium intake in children. American guidelines from Mayo Clinic and European guidelines from the EFSA differ in their recommended amounts across various age ranges. The European standards generally permit higher magnesium intake for children compared to North American standards. However, the challenge arises from the fact that there’s no universally defined “average child” in terms of weight, height, etc.

Nonetheless, we consider the recommendations by Dr. Carolyn Dean, as outlined in her book “The Magnesium Miracle,” to be clear and simple. She suggests a guideline of 6 mg of magnesium per kilogram of the child’s weight. For example, if a 12-year-old weighs 38 kg, they would need 6 x 38 = 228 mg of magnesium daily. As children progress from ages 11 to 16, there’s a general agreement that boys may require slightly more magnesium intake compared to girls. Although a definitive “average child” is difficult to define, we present the following summary based on a thorough analysis of various sources:
